"Missing the feed" means that their feed is down and not working. This chapter says that corporations are basically taking over the world!!!!! They have all the cool technology that people buy. And some of that technology is pointless, like a bird that does nothing. A corporation in our time would be Walmart. They sell their items for less than other stores (which is good for us:)) but isn't always good for the economy. The corporations control everything. They monitor us and tells us what to buy and what is cool and in style. And when the corporation goes down, everybody goes down. When you are used to the corporations taking over your life, it is hard to live without them when they're down. We are so dependent on them to live.
Violets project is to create a profile that the corporations can't market. She starts to mess with the feed. Checking out stuff and not buying them. Her willingness tells us that she is resisting the feed and that she has figured out the corporations intentions. I don't know a person that is like violet, but i'm sure there is. They're probably people who object technology and don't us it at all. Like the omish people. Titus follows her for awhile. He thinks it's fun at first, but then finds out that it's to difficult to handle.
Titus' reaction to his parents buying an upcar is that he was surprised. He was surprised that his parents would give him a gift instead of punishment for what he did on the moon. He wasn't expecting his parents to be so calm about it. He was hoping that they would actually care. But they didn't think it was a big idea.
